Herschel Walker scheduled to stump in Milledgeville next week

Herschel Walker, who grew up less than 50 miles away from here over in Wrightsville, is scheduled to be in Milledgeville next week for a campaign rally.

Walker, generally regarded as one of the two or three greatest college football running backs in history, currently is polling head-and-shoulders above any of any other Republican candidate for United States Senate, and Walker is polling slightly ahead of Democrat incumbent Rafael Warnock in a hypothetical November general election showdown. That data can be viewed HERE.

The event is being called the "MILLEDGEVILLE, GA RALLY," according to the campaign flyer, and it's set for Tuesday, May 3 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Walter B. Williams Jr. Park.

Coincidentally, this will be the second time in recent years that a really, really famous football player was at Walter B. Williams Jr. Park. Michael Vick, who lost his job as the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback after being arrested for dog fighting, spoke to a packed gym back in 2013 on the topics of hope and redemption.

Walker, whose friendship with Donald Trump goes back 40 years to the old New Jersey Generals football team days, had been endorsed by Trump and is the "Trump candidate" on the GOP side.

"We are very excited that Herschel Walker will be in town," said Janet Westmoreland, chairwoman of the Baldwin County Republican Party. "It will be more of a meet-and-greet type thing, from what I understand, and it will be a great opportunity for folks to come out and see Herschel."
