"Milledgeville" made it to the oft-cited "Mass Shootings" list today on the gunviolence.org website after five people were shot off of Dunlap Road early Sunday morning.

Large media outlets often use the website when reporting on the number of mass shootings over a weekend or a certain period. The website defines mass shootings as having "a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, not including any shooter who may also have been killed or injured in the incident."

Technically, this should've been the second time in the last three months that Milledgeville made the list, as four people were shot inside of Columbia Pub & Billiard in mid April. The April incident was never documented by gunviolence.org, however.

In terms of this morning's incident, according to a Milledgeville Police Department press release, "there are a total of five victims. Four female victims and one male victim all suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims are listed in stable condition."

Added the incident report: "At approximately 12:34am, Officers responded to the area in reference to multiple reports of shots fired at the location. As officers were arriving on scene, a large crowd was fleeing the area. Officers located multiple vehicles and houses that had been struck by gunfire. At the same time officers were arriving on scene, officers were notified by Navicent Health Baldwin that multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds had arrived at the hospital. All victims were brought to the hospital in personal vehicles."

On July 8, meanwhile, gunshots rang out in the Riverbend apartments shortly after midnight, sending three men to the emergency room with gunshot wounds. One of the men from the overnight incident was shot in the chest and transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Macon, where he was listed in critical condition. The incident at Riverbend led to a very tense moment for law enforcement, one that involved a man jumping out of a car "wearing a ski mask and holding a handgun," according to a Milledgeville Police Department press release. Law enforcement did not fire any gunshots during the interaction."

All three of the recent multiple shootings occurred after midnight, and all three are believed to be gang-related, according to investigators. In other words, if you're not hanging out after midnight in the same place as gangbangers, Milledgeville isn't nearly as dangerous as it may appear to be on paper.
