Two men remain hospitalized following an especially violent assault early Saturday morning at Little River RV Park, located on US 441 by the Putnam County line.
One of the victims was rushed to the hospital and "placed on a ventilator" and "did not have a high probability of recovery," a family member relayed to deputies. The family member added that "a portion of his skull may have punctured his brain."
The reported weapon was a bottle of Clase Azul Reposado Tequila. When deputies first responded to the RV park, the bottle initially was unrecognizable and "was shattered on the ground into pieces with blood on it," according to a Baldwin County Sheriff's Office incident report.
The suspect – Anthony Richard Tuberville, 32 – drove to the Sheriff's Office headquarters around 10 a.m. Saturday "to give a statement." At that point, he was arrested on several outstanding warrants and charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Tuberville and the two victims all currently were living in the RV park, according to the incident report. On the incident report, however, Tuberville is listed with an address in Shiloh, located near Columbus and the Georgia-Alabama line.
The disagreement between Tuberville and the two men actually began inside of the bar at Duke's Dawg House on Sinclair Marina Road earlier that night. While a deputy was in the process of trespassing one of Tuberville's friends outside in the parking lot, "a fight began inside." Tuberville was identified as the aggressor, according to multiple witnesses.
Tuberville was placed in the back of a deputy's patrol vehicle. According to the deputy's narrative: "I asked (victim 1) is he wanted to press charges, and he responded 'no, I ain't gonna press charges, man." I asked (victim 2) about pressing charges and he initially said 'yeah, I do" but changed his mind and stated he did not want to press charges. At the request of the property owner, Robert Butch, I hand delivered a written trespass notice to (victim 1) and Tuberville. Due to (victim 1) and (victim 2) not wanting to press charges, I released Tuberville from custody."
At that point, "all parties involved left the area by boat."
At some point after that, the same deputy responded to Little River RV Park in reference to an aggravated assault. The deputy first encountered a woman "who was crying and holding a towel to the bleeding head of (victim 2)."
"He way laying in wait for us," the woman relayed to the deputy.
Both men were "on the ground unresponsive," according to the incident report, and victim 2 "had a major head injury and significant blood loss."
Depending on the longterm prognosis of the critically injured victim, Tuberville's charges eventually could be upgraded to either manslaughter or aggravated battery, presumably, depending on whether or not he survives.
