A 23-year-old woman lost her life late Monday following a shooting in the Capitol Homes trailer park off of Ga. 49 past Baldwin High.
The victim was identified as Shani Ronashia King, 23. Following the shooting incident, a man drove King to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The man who drove King to the hospital – Reco Stephens – ultimately was charged with murder and booked at the county jail on Old Monticello Road.
Maj. Brad King with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office referred to the incident as "domestic in nature." The shooting took place inside of King's mobile home, he added.
"Due to crime scene evidence, as well as our interviews with (Stephens), we felt strongly that we had enough to charge him with murder," King said.
The incident marked the second domestic-related homicide in Milledgeville-Baldwin County this year. The first took place in February and off of the Vinson Highway and near the Oconee River. Johnny Chapple, 37, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged in the murder of Latoria Waller, 30. According to investigators, Chapple and Waller were boyfriend and girlfriend and lived together at the house on Towns Street. Waller was still fighting for her life when first responders arrived, but she later passed away at an area hospital.
