Baldwin needed this one.

After a frustrating start to the 2022 season, the Braves (2-4, 1-1) blasted Howard 45-0 on Thursday night over at Thompson Stadium in Macon.

Sophomore Lamar Pounds and junior Armontae Palmer served as the Braves' primary quarterbacks. In the two games that Pounds and Palmer have been the two quarterbacks – Washington County and Howard – Baldwin has scored a total of 80 points and has averaged 40 points per game. In the four games that Pounds and Palmer weren't the primary quarterbacks, meanwhile, the Braves have scored 51` points and averaged just 13 points per game.

A new star perhaps was born for Baldwin on Thursday night. Ninth grader Keilan Walker made several acrobatic catches, including one on a long scoring strike. Baldwin has been looking for someone to step up at receiver since star dual-sport player Shatavious Hogan transferred to a school in Florida during the off-season.

The rubber will meet the road two weeks from now at Braves Stadium, as Baldwin will host region frontrunner Perry, which has been a major thorn in the Braves' side. Then Panthers currently are ranked No. 3 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution GHSA Class AAAA poll.

Tailback Micah Welch, currently a four-star recruit and the second-ranked junior running back in Georgia by rivals.com, continues to shine for Baldwin. For anyone who hasn't yet checked out his two long runs against Spalding last week, sheesh!
