All roads lead to Huley Park for King Day celebration

Everyone in Baldwin and surrounding counties are invited out to Monday's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, hosted as always by the local chapter of the Southern Leadership Christian Conference.

Everything kicks off at 2 p.m. at Huley Park, located all the way at the top end of North Wayne Street and off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, fittingly. Gospel radio personality Victor Vaughn will serve as the emcee, while there will be a host of speakers, with Toomsboro Mayor Joyce Denson serving as keynote speaker. Excerpts of some of King's speeches also will be read throughout the afternoon.

This year's event is souped-up and designed to attract a crowd from Baldwin and all surrounding counties. There will be food on the grill, a DJ, a car show and even horse rides around the park.

However, the SCLC's annual march to downtown Milledgeville won't be taking place this year, although it's expected to return for King Day 2024.
