A Baldwin State Prison inmate from nearby Jefferson County bolted from his work detail in south Baldwin County on Monday and subsequently took off in a gray Toyota Corolla with a WILKINSON license plate.
Most escaped prisoners tend to head back to their home turf, which appears to be the case here. The Washington County Sheriff's Office issued an alert on Monday afternoon, stating that Knight crossed over into Washington County from Wilkinson County.
William Knight had been locked up at Baldwin State since 2017 on a 10-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter. Knight intentionally gave another man a large and lethal dose of methamphetamine and then left the victim to die once he began experiencing medical complications, according to a WRDW/WAGT news article.
"Statewide lookout for Baldwin SP inmate William Knight (GDC#1001849396) who left his work detail in Hardwick, Ga. Last seen driving a grey Toyota Corolla with Ga plate ABN5644. Do not approach, call 478.992.5111 or 911," wrote the Department of Corrections in a media release.
