A man identifying himself as "Michael Carter" with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office recently called Amici Italian Cafe and asked to speak with the manager.

The manager then was told that a warrant was issued for his arrest "due to him missing jury duty," according to a Milledgeville Police Department incident report. "Michael Carter" then told the manager that the Sheriff's Office needed $412 in the form of two different CashApp payments in order to avoid arrest. The manager then made the two CashApp payments, and the phone call ended.

The manager later realized that he'd been scammed and filed a police report. The same "Michael Carter" reportedly called several other restaurants downtown and attempted the same scam without success.
