UPDATE: Body recovered at Greenway
A drowning occurred at the Oconee River Greenway on Sunday, and first responders recovered the body around 3 p.m.
The deceased was identified as a "22-year-old Hispanic male."
The deceased was swimming with a friend when he went under and did not re-emerge, according to the Milledgeville Police Department.
The Greenway re-opened after first responders cleared out.
This marks the second straight June that a drowning has occurred along the Oconee River in Milledgeville. On June 6, 2022, 15-year-old Alex Escobar Careto was fishing along the tailrace beside the dam when he slipped and fell in the water.
