Gov. Brian Kemp was in the crowd, as were several hundred other people.

Braylen Howell never flinched, however, delivering a rousing speech at the Georgia School Association's recent conference in Savannah. Howell, the son of Latrina Howell, received a standing ovation following the 15-minute-long speech, which focused on the importance of public education.

"The things that I've learned along the way on my public education journey truly have changed my life for the better and given me a strong purpose. They showed me that any kid, from any background, can accomplish anything that they aspire to be," said Howell.

Howell recently graduated high school with a 3.9 GPA and soon will begin classes at the University of Georgia.

Howell actually will begin classes at UGA as a junior, as he already owns two associate degrees – one from Georgia Military College and one from Central Georgia Technical College. He plans on majoring in finance and economics in Athens. His list of extracurriculars, meanwhile, is too long to list in one news article.
