Milledgeville MainStreet's summer of 2023 in pictures

It's safe to say that Milledgeville MainStreet is one of the best things that this town has going for it. 

Despite an especially hot and humid summer, MainStreet continued to bring people together and gather a crowd around downtown. The MainStreet approach, according to its website, is to advocate "a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community."

The summer started off for MainStreet with its annual Beach Bash, which transformed the downtown Post Office parking lot into a sandy beach. Per usual, Standard Sand and Silica Co. and Fowler Flemister Concrete teamed up to donate and transport 80 tons of sand for the event...

Next up was Christmas In July, when roughly three dozen vendors had a chance to sell their wares and kickstart the holiday shopping season. Making a guest appearance was the big man himself, Santa Claus, as well as his lady, Mrs. Claus...


Finally, last Friday, it was time for First Friday Double Feature Movie Night. A large 16-foot-by-9-foot projector screen was set up below the Hancock Street pavilion, and young and old alike came out to watch Shrek and Top Gun: Maverick. Duckworth Farm Supply provided a picture-perfect  smalltown backdrop, while the steep hill beside the pavilion provided a perfect place for kids to burn off some energy...
