What exactly is "Faith & Blue?"

The third annual Faith & Blue event is all set for Friday afternoon in the parking lot at 140 North Jefferson Street, which could probably best be described as "the parking lot behind the post office and beside the cupcake place."

Planned are free food and drinks, activities for the kids, speeches, a Red Cross blood drive, as well as "public and law enforcement positive interaction."

The goal of the event is simple, according to co-organizer Bruce Vaughn.

"We just want to bring together our law enforcement community, our faith-based community and our citizens," he said. "When you bring these three groups together, most communities thrive."

This is the first year that the event will be held downtown in collaboration with First Friday. The inaugural Faith & Blue event was held at First United Methodist Church, while last year's Faith & Blue was at the new Carrington Woods government annex...

Faith & Blue is a nationwide initiative, ACCORDING TO ITS WEBSITE, and its mission is to "facilitate safer and stronger communities by engaging law enforcement officers and local residents through the connections of faith-based organizations."

Added the website: "National Faith & Blue Weekend is an extension of the One Congregation One Precinct initiative (OneCOP), a program of MovementForward, Inc., which is a bridge-building, solutions-focused human and civil rights organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. The OneCOP initiative pairs together officers at the beat or precinct level with local faith-based organizations.
