Both the Polar Express Trolley Ride and Lockerly In Lights have come on strong in recent years, but The Nutcracker at Russell Auditorium remains the O.G. of Milledgeville holiday traditions.
It's become a holiday institution around town and something synonymous with Christmas.
Showtimes are all set for this year's performances at Russell Auditorium:
• Friday, Dec. 8 – 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 9 – 7 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 10 – 2 p.m.
Tickets are available online at gcsutickets.com and also at the door. The cost is $15 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens/GCSU faculty/GCSU staff/non-GCSU students and $5 for GCSU students.
This year's rendition will include all-new costumes and some souped-up special effects, including a 24-foot dancing dragon and falling snow. All totaled, more than 200 people are included in the program, with the youngest being the 3- and 4-year-old "Tiny Mice" and the 5- and 6-year-old "Little Angels."
Amelia Pelton is the woman with the plan.
“When I first directed this classic ballet 27 years ago on campus, we only had about 40 dancers,” said Amelia Pelton, director of dance at Georgia College. “I look forward to this all year and plan it year-round. It is my joy.”
Following in a long line of "Claras" is Kaylee Smith, a junior at Georgia Military College Prep.
Overcast , with a high of 50 and low of 43 degrees. Overcast during the morning, partly cloudy in the afternoon and evening, mist overnight.
Everything sounded so lovely until the end.
“We tried”
If that’s not disheartening idk what is. I feel the need to quote my mom here. “I can’t have nothin nice”. Wiser words were never said.
Oh! And for gods sake STAY HYDRATED if you want to save on hospital bills. I hate summer.
Member when the river was fun and didn’t get angry and take lives? You could float down hopefully by sunset with only burnt skin that was a problem for later you? Member when your biggest fear were all the scary gar lingering about?
