STATE CHAMPS! Bravettes take care of business

It was a Milledgeville thing in the Macon Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon, as Baldwin roared back from a 16-point deficit to defeat Hardaway 47-39 in the GHSA Class AAAA girls state championship game.

The victory snapped the Bravettes' 36-year state title drought. It's the fourth state title in program history.

Also, Baldwin High now becomes only the fourth high school in Georgia with both a boys and girls basketball state championship this decade.

The fact that Baldwin came from behind to get the victory made it extra sweet. Just 52 weeks ago, in the 2023 title game, Baldwin was up by six points with just 67 seconds game before Griffin came roaring back for the 51-47 victory.

This time around, it was the Bravettes who never flinched...

The Baldwin fans were tomahawk chopping as the final seconds ticked away, while the student section was really, really feeling it...

Head Coach Kizzi Walker, who was "Kizzi Trawick" when she graduated from BHS back in 1996, joined the other coaches in a group hug immediately after the game. Walker was clearly emotional, as winning a state title with your alma mater is always extra special...

The Bravettes (29-2) ended the season on a whopping 25-game winning streak and haven't lost a game in more than three months.
