It's downtown Milledgeville's second-biggest day, second only to the Deep Roots Festival.
The Hometown Celebration is all set for this afternoon, beginning at 5 o'clock and going all the way through 11. Time certainly flies, and it's now been 10 years since the first Hometown Celebration back in 2014.
The 100 block of Hancock Street, which is the main drag through downtown, will close at noon Friday.
"The event is an opportunity for individuals of all ages to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories," according to Carlee Schulte, executive director with Milledgeville Main Street. "This event started in 2014 as a community celebration for winning the national title of a Great American Main Street City by the Main Street America organization."
There's no admission fee. Here's the plan, according to Milledgeville Main Street:
• Live Music: Groove to the rhythm of two great bands as they take the stage to showcase their talent and entertain the crowd. Nu South Playaz will kick off the evening from 5 to 7, followed by community groups performing from 7 to 9, and Highway 49 closing out the night from 9 to 11.
• Artisan Market: Explore a diverse array of handcrafted goods and unique creations from local artisans and craftsmen.
• Delicious Food and Drink: Indulge in a culinary adventure with a mouthwatering selection from local eateries offering delectable dishes and refreshing beverages.
• Family Fun Zone: Bring the whole family and enjoy a range of kid-friendly activities, games, and entertainment. The Junior Board of Directors will host engaging projects for community members, including a Lock Gate, Owl painting, and Rock decorating.
