At this rate, there will be more Dollar Generals in Baldwin County than people.
Construction currently is ongoing on Dollar General No. 8, located on the Gordon Highway/Ga. 243 and roughly a half-mile north of Pierce's store and the Coopers Community (closer towards town). The company submitted its architectural plans for approval at the Baldwin County Planning & Zoning Office earlier this summer for approval, and construction is now in full swing.
Upon completion, there will be one Dollar General for roughly every 5,580 people in Baldwin County.
Roughly 75 percent of Americans live within five miles of a Dollar General, according to the company’s website. Around here, meanwhile, at least 75 percent of Milledgevillians live with five miles of five different Dollar Generals. Apparently, though, that’s still not good enough for the company.
Dollar General No. 7, located at the corner of North Jefferson Street and Log Cabin Road, opened in the spring, and apparently the company became hot and heavy to build another one.
