NBC's Macon affiliate recently ran a story on Floyd L. Griffin and his plans to run for Secretary of State in 2022. NBC 41's entire feature can be viewed HERE.

Griffin is a former mayor of Milledgeville, as well as the first African-American elected to the State Senate from a majority white district since Reconstruction. Griffin last ran for elected office in 2016, falling in the November general election to Republican Rick Williams in the District 145 State Representatives race.

Three other Democrats also have declared, according to Wikipedia:

"• John Eaves, former Fulton County Commission Chairman

• Bee Nguyenstate representative (2017–present)

• Manswell Peterson, former college professor"

On the Republican side, meanwhile, the following candidates have announced their intentions to run:

"• David Belle Isle, former mayor of Alpharetta (2012–2018) and candidate for Georgia Secretary of State in 2018

• Jody Hice, U.S. Representative for Georgia's 10th congressional district (2015–present)

• T.J. Hudson, former Treutlen County Probate Judge

• Brenda Lynn Nelson-Porter, researcher, prior U.S. Marine, disabled veteran

• Brad Raffensperger, incumbent Georgia Secretary of State (2019–present)"

Donald Trump already has endorsed Hice, which makes him the presumptive frontrunner on the Republican side. Hice was in town last week and explained how he came to the conclusion to run...
