The Milledgeville Police Department has identified the woman who lost her life in a Friday evening traffic accident in Carrington Woods.
Chelsea Hurt, 17, was pronounced deceased at the scene following the two-car accident in the 200 block of Lakeside Drive, which is the main cut-thru road between North Jefferson and North Columbia streets. Hurt was a passenger in a 2011 Mazda 3i when the car crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a Jeep, according to the MPD press release. The driver of the Mazda – Contavious Phelps, 23 – was airlifted to an area hospital.
The driver of the Jeep, meanwhile, was identified as 41-year-old Joanna Smith of Milledgeville. A juvenile passenger also was in the Jeep, and both occupants sustained minor injuries, according to the report.
