Courtney Camille Cox, the woman killed last week inside of her midtown Atlanta apartment, will be laid to rest on Saturday in her native Indianapolis, Ind.
Her obituary revealed that she first came south and moved to Atlanta to attend Spelman College, where she ultimately graduated in 2012 "with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in French and International Studies." Added the obituary: "Courtney graduated from Spelman, as a Top Ten Scholar, a summa cum laude Latin honors designee, and an inductee in the Phi Beta Kappa Society." Cox then went on to law school at the prestigious Georgetown University Law School in D.C. "After successfully passing the bar, she joined the firm of Paul Hastings, LLP (Atlanta office) in October 2016, working there until the time of her demise," added the obituary.
Atlanta Police Department officers responded to a high-rise downtown apartment around 3:30 in the morning on Oct. 1 and almost immediately encountered gunfire from the 21st floor. Jarvis Jarrette, listed as "from Milledgeville" or "Milledgeville man" began shooting at officers with a rifle, according to investigators. Jarrette reportedly began firing indiscriminately from the balcony prior to APD's arrival, and when cops arrived Jarrette reportedly turned his attention to them. Officers ultimately were able to gain access into the apartment and found two people dead – Jarrette and his girlfriend. She was identified as 31-year-old Courtney Cox, a lawyer who was described by friends as "genuinely a nice person, according to CBS 46. The couple began dating over the summer and "were crazy about each other, added the news report.
Meanwhile, Jarrette was laid to rest earlier this week here in Milledgeville.
GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles told Baldwin2K on Thursday that "there are no new updates to report," which can be inferred that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation still has not wrapped up its investigation. The GBI was called in to determine whether or not Jarrette was killed by law enforcement or took his own life on the balcony of the 21st-floor apartment.
