Man from Wednesday car crash arrested

A man was released from the hospital on Friday afternoon and promptly taken to jail following a fatal car crash that happened earlier this week on the north side.

Trey Aaron Ramage, 35, was booked on a number of charges at the county jail:

•one count of reckless driving

•one count of DUI

•one count of failure to maintain lane

•two counts of vehicular homicide

It's not immediately clear why Ramage was charged with two counts of felony vehicular homicide. Vehicular homicide in the state of Georgia can be either a misdemeanor or a felony, but the Milledgeville Police Department press release indicated that both charges were "FELONY." There was one victim in the early Wednesday morning accident on North Columbia Street/US 441 – Kelly Butler, a 48-year-old Hancock County man.

Baldwin2k will have a follow-up story on Monday when more details become available.

Butler was traveling north on North Columbia Street towards Putnam County when his Nissan Altima was struck head-on by a pickup truck that lost its lane, according to a Milledgeville Police Department release. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The pickup truck "was traveling southbound on North Columbia Street, crossed over the center lane, into the inside northbound lane and collided head on with" Butler's vehicle, added the report.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Ramage, a Milledgeville man. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the general vicinity of 441 and Marshall Road. After clearing the scene and performing an investigation, traffic finally re-opened on North Columbia around 11 a.m.
