GMC launches Dwayne Morgan scholarship

Dwayne Morgan's death hit quite a few people hard last month.

Morgan was different things to many people – Santa Claus, firefighter, church leader, paramedic. 

Morgan also was a Georgia Military College graduate, class of 1979. With this in mind, his alma mater recently announced that its launching the "GMC 801 Fire Rescue Scholarship." Wrote the school in a press release:

A beloved “Santa,” a man of faith and service, and friend to all, Dwayne Morgan will live on in the hearts of all who knew him; and now, future students will learn of his legacy through The GMC 801 Fire Rescue Scholarship. In memory and honor of Dwayne’s life of service, the Georgia Military College Main Campus and the Baldwin County Fire Rescue present this scholarship to give perspective first responders/firefighters the ability to earn an Associate Degree at no personal cost.

Scholarship applicants must "be a first-time in-seat student at the GMC Main Campus in Milledgeville," while also signing an agreement to serve "as a first responder/firefighter for a minimum of two years with the Baldwin County Fire Rescue."

"Dwayne Morgan exemplified all of these values and GMC is honored to partner with Baldwin County Fire Rescue to present this opportunity to members of our community to commemorate Dwayne’s life," added the press release.

The scholarship includes "tuition, fees, and books after Federal and State Aid is applied." For more information, email the school at admissioninfo@gmc.edu
