Five Goodwill Industries employees have been terminated after "failing to properly scan" more than $20,000 worth of items, dating back to last winter, according to an incident report.
Goodwill is a church-based non-profit group that "works to enhance people’s dignity and quality of life by strengthening their communities, eliminating their barriers to opportunity, and helping them reach their full potential through learning and the power of work." The Goodwill store on North Columbia Street is one of more than 3,000 around the country.
A store manager turned over five DVDS worth of surveillance footage to detectives "of the activity spanning from January 2021 to November 2021." The DVDs "also included the statements and other documentation about the investigation."
The five employees essentially were hooking up certain customers and "failed to properly scan items being sold to certain customers." The five employees were all fired in mid November.
The store manager chose not to prosecute.
