Dexter Stephens, who many people might known from the downtown Ace Hardware, wrote that he was leaving the gym on Monday evening and planning on heading home. On a whim, however, Stephens decided to stop by McAlister's Deli "to get something to eat."
Stephens credits that fateful decision for perhaps saving his life. After entering the restaurant, Stephens turned around and spotted a large fire blazing out of control from underneath the hood of his car. Multiple fire trucks responded and eventually extinguished the blaze.

While most people would've sulked and wallowed in self-pity, Stephens instead counted his blessings.
"Thank YOU GOD for sparing my life! YOU didn't have to but YOU did," Stephens wrote on Facebook. "All the glory belongs to YOU!!! Amen I'm still alive!"
Stephens is a longtime employee at the downtown Ace, a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and an all around good guy.
