Two men recently had their day in court, one pleading guilty in Superior Court to child molestation and the other rape.

Samuel Johnson, 61, was sentenced to 2o years on probation and 10 behind bars. Johnson also will receive credit for time served since July 2019, when he was arrested and accused of fondling two different underage girls on three different occasions.

It will be the second go-around in prison for Johnson on child molestation charges. He previously spent nine years in Dooly State Prison following a child molestation conviction in 1996. All totaled, Johnson has been booked at the Baldwin County jail on 18 different occasions.

Meanwhile, a Gwinnett County man was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in what was previously a cold case. James Trevor Patrick, 33, was arrested last October following a break in the case, which involved a college student at an off-campus apartment back in 2015. A break in the case finally came in 2020,according to an article in the Union-Recorder, after Patrick "was accused of sexually assaulting another woman in Hall County." This produced a possible match from the 2015 incident here in Milledgeville through the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

CODIS,"links unknown DNA left during the commission of a crime to offenders who are legally required to provide samples for the database."
