Sonya Williams knew that she wanted to be a nurse for a long time, but life kept getting in the way.
In the end, it turned out that she just needed a little encouragement from her daughter.
Williams graduated from nursing school last week during a ceremony at Southern Crescent Technical College's campus in Griffin. Williams' daughter, Jameria Walker, was there to cheer her own. Walker wasn't in the bleachers wearing a tee shirt, however. Walker actually was wearing a cap and gown and also graduating from the same nursing school and on the same day.
"It was a wonderful, wonderful day," said Williams. "(My daughter) inspired me to back to school, and it's something that I wanted to do for years. I just had to step out on faith and actually do it."
Walker, Baldwin High Class of 2009, said that she and her mother have been a team in recent years, helping each other study and looking after each other.
"I watched my mother fight so hard. I'm just so proud of her," Walker said.
