First responders flooded across the river en masse Wednesday afternoon following a motorcycle accident on Deepstep Road.

The driver, identified by the Georgia State Patrol as Thomas Tollison of Milledgeville, 37, lost control of his bike before striking a divider and then a tree, according to the preliminary accident report. No other vehicles were involved.

The previous afternoon, meanwhile, another Baldwin County resident also lost their life in a traffic accident, this time while riding a bicycle outside of Eatonton. Teresa Rose, 56, was identified as the deceased. Rose was struck by a van near the corner of Godfrey Road and Glades Road, located to the west of the Eatonton bypass. The driver of the van was arrested and charged with misdemeanor homicide by vehicle, failure to give right of way, as well as failure to give a turn signal.

It was the second negligent cycling fatality in middle Georgia in less than a week, according to this article on WMAZ. Added the article: “According to Georgia's bicycle laws drivers are required to keep a 3-foot distance from cyclist when passing them.”
