Georgia Military College leaders broke out the shiny shovels on Tuesday morning, as the school held a ceremonial groundbreaking on a new facility at 430 South Jefferson St.

Dubbed the Academic Center of Excellence, the "9,800 square foot state-of-the-art facility will support GMC’s primary strategic initiative: 'contribute to student success,'" while also housing "all of the Academic Affairs Administration for the Junior College, Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness, Academic Records and Registrar’s Office, Military and Veteran’s Education Services, Teaching and Learning Center, Online Education Development, and the Student Success Center," according to a school press release.

The Student Success Center, added the release, " oversees student support services including Academic Alert, Tutoring, Advising, and Peer Mentoring. The building will house a training facility, office spaces, conference room, collaboration spaces, and a sound-proof technology room for filming and producing training videos."

“Our students are our main focus at GMC and the name of this facility, the Academic Center of Excellence, emphasizes the value of those efforts,” said Dr. Susan Isaac, Senior Vice President for Academics and GMC’s Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Faculty. “Georgia Military College is fully committed to providing unique opportunities for a variety of students so that they gain hope for the future, take advantage of the opportunities presented to them, embark on a quest for excellence, and develop as leaders in their communities.”
