Baldwin County's first female county commissioner was laid to rest this morning.

The funeral for Geneva Bell Davis was held at Trinity CME on North Wilkinson Street and internment at Baldwin Memorial Gardens.

Davis had battled colon cancer in recent years. On Saturday, she "passed away peacefully...at her residence surrounded by family." Family and friends remembered Davis as "a pioneer" and "kind and gentle"...

Davis first began representing District 1 in 2000 following the death of her husband, Oscar Davis, who'd previously represented the district since 1985. Geneva Davis then won two full terms (2000 and 2004) before bowing out of politics. Oscar and Geneva's daughter – Emily Davis – then ran and won in 2008 and once again in 2012, 2016 and 2020. In other words, a "Davis" has represented District 1 for going on 40 years.

Geneva Bell Davis was 95.
