Metro Atlanta COVID rates through the roof

Image

Most trends around Georgia start in Atlanta and move outwards. In the case of the Omicron variant, that's obviously not a good thing.

COVID-19 rates in Fulton County currently are roughly 500 percent higher than here in Baldwin County, while several other metro counties aren't far behind, according to the Georgia Department of Health's database. Thursday shattered the statewide record for most cases in a single day by a fairly wide margin, with a disproportionate number of those cases coming from inside the 29-county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Here in Baldwin County, the rate has jumped from roughly 40 cases per 100,000 people to 293 cases per 100,000 people in less than a week, although that rate remains far behind most of metro Atlanta.

So far, however, COVID-19 deaths haven't risen along the same trend line, and COVID-related deaths have risen only slightly in the last few weeks.
