THE JETSONS LIED TO US: ELON MUSK, FLYING CARS, AND GEN X’S LAST DAMN NERVE
We Survived the ‘80s Without Adult Supervision. Now We’re Supposed to Trust Elon Musk With Gravity?

UNITED STATES — Elon Musk keeps teasing futuristic transportation, and Generation X has briefly interrupted its regularly scheduled program of not giving a shit to ask one question:
“WHERE THE HELL IS MY FLYING CAR, ELON?”
We were promised flying cars by the year 2000. We watched The Jetsons. We believed the hype. We expected robot maids, hoverboards, and vacations on Mars.
Instead, we got $8 coffee, self-checkout machines that accuse us of stealing, and billionaires having public meltdowns on social media.
Frankly, we’d like a refund on the future.
And now, 26 years late, Elon wants us excited about flying cars?
Sir, we’re middle-aged. Our knees predict rain, our backs sound like haunted staircases, and half of us need reading glasses to find our reading glasses.
WE WANTED FLYING CARS WHEN WE WERE YOUNG ENOUGH TO SURVIVE CRASHING THEM.
🛸 GEN X DOESN’T FEAR FLYING. WE FEAR THE IDIOTS WHO’LL BE FLYING WITH US.
We grew up riding bicycles without helmets, playing with lawn darts, drinking from garden hoses, and sitting in the backs of pickup trucks at highway speeds.
Our parents considered “Be home before dark” a comprehensive safety plan.
DANGER WAS OUR CHILDHOOD.
But have you SEEN the people driving around Walmart?
These idiots can’t navigate a four-way stop, and Elon wants to give them AIRSPACE?
Imagine Brenda, who’s hit three parked cars this year, trying to land her flying Tesla at Target.
Or Kyle, whose lifted pickup already takes up two lanes, discovering he can now tailgate people at 2,000 feet.
What happens when somebody cuts you off in midair?
Do we exchange insurance information while plummeting toward a Cracker Barrel?
ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT.
🚀 ELON, WE WATCHED THE CHALLENGER EXPLODE ON LIVE TELEVISION. WE HAVE TRUST ISSUES.
Gen X remembers January 28, 1986.
We watched the Challenger disaster unfold in our classrooms. That experience left a mark.
So forgive us if we’re not immediately enthusiastic about climbing into an airborne electric vehicle because a billionaire promises it’ll be awesome.
We’re going to need safety certifications, emergency landing procedures, and preferably a parachute.
Because if something goes wrong at 3,000 feet, we don’t want a touchscreen asking:
“Would you like to submit a bug report?”
NO, ASSHOLE. WE WOULD LIKE TO LIVE.
📼 IF IT DOESN’T PLAY DEF LEPPARD, WE DON’T WANT IT.
Modern cars have too much technology.
We don’t need a touchscreen the size of a television or an AI assistant judging our driving.
We need a radio with actual knobs, a cassette deck, and a glove compartment big enough for expired insurance cards and McDonald’s napkins.
And when that flying Tesla takes off, Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” better come blasting through the speakers.
Because if we’re flying a car, we’re doing it like Maverick in Top Gun.
WITHOUT GOOSE’S ENDING, PREFERABLY.
⚡ WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENS WHEN THE BATTERY DIES?
Picture this.
You’re flying over Atlanta, blasting Bon Jovi, feeling young again.
Then suddenly:
“WARNING: BATTERY AT 5%.”
Excuse me?
WE’RE IN THE FUCKING SKY.
Where exactly are we supposed to plug this thing in?
Is there a flying Buc-ee’s? Does Waffle House offer emergency aerial landings?
And don’t even THINK about telling us the car needs a software update.
“Your Tesla must restart to complete installation.”
Absolutely not.
Gravity doesn’t care about your software update, your stock price, or your social media followers.
GRAVITY HAS BEEN UNDEFEATED FOR BILLIONS OF YEARS, AND WE’RE NOT CHALLENGING ITS RECORD.
🤖 WE WERE PROMISED ROSIE THE ROBOT. WE GOT ALEXA EAVESDROPPING ON US.
By 2026, we were supposed to have robot maids and kitchens that made dinner automatically.
Instead, our televisions require passwords, our refrigerators need Wi-Fi, and our washing machines sing little songs when they’re finished.
Meanwhile, we’re still folding fitted sheets like medieval peasants.
WHERE THE HELL IS ROSIE?
If humanity can make cars fly, surely somebody can invent a robot that cleans the litter box and tells people knocking on our doors that we’re not home.
THAT’S THE TECHNOLOGY GEN X ACTUALLY WANTS.
💸 FLYING CARS WILL PROBABLY REQUIRE A SUBSCRIPTION TO GRAVITY.
Let’s be realistic. Nothing comes included anymore.
We can already imagine the pricing:
Basic Package: Vehicle hovers three feet above the ground.
Premium Package: Unlocks altitudes above telephone poles.
Platinum Package: Includes emergency landing capabilities.
Elon Ultimate Experience: For $499.99 monthly, the car promises not to display inspirational quotes from its CEO during emergencies.
And naturally, there will be advertisements.
“Watch this 30-second commercial to unlock landing.”
ELON, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE WORDS.
🚦 THE DMV WILL FIND A WAY TO RUIN THIS.
Somewhere, a government employee is already designing a 94-page flying-car registration application.
You’ll need a driver’s license, pilot’s license, proof of insurance, and a notarized letter confirming you understand gravity.
Then comes the flying driver’s test.
“Please demonstrate a three-point turn at 1,500 feet.”
Lady, I barely passed parallel parking in 1987.
I’m not doing aerial geometry.
And you KNOW Georgia will have speed traps hidden behind clouds.
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE. YOUR REGISTRATION IS EXPIRED.
🔥 GEN X HAS REACHED ITS FINAL VERDICT.
Look, Elon.
We grew up watching Star Trek, Knight Rider, and Back to the Future.
We wanted KITT. We wanted hoverboards. We wanted DeLoreans that traveled through time.
Hell, some of us just wanted a lightsaber.
Instead, we got influencers dancing in grocery stores and refrigerators that spy on us.
So go ahead. Build the flying car.
Make it safe. Make it affordable. Give it manual controls, actual radio buttons, and cupholders.
And for the love of everything holy, don’t make us subscribe to keep it airborne.
Because when that futuristic technology inevitably malfunctions, Gen X will do exactly what we’ve always done.
Shrug.
Say, “Well, fuck.”
Figure out how to fix it ourselves.
Then climb into our 1998 Toyota Camry with 347,000 miles on it and drive home.
On the ground.
Like God intended.
BECAUSE THAT CAMRY WILL PROBABLY OUTLIVE EVERY FLYING TESLA EVER BUILT.
And possibly Elon.
